Venous leg ulcers can cause severe morbidity to patients in terms of complications with wound healing and the wider impact of a highly exuding wound on all aspects of daily life. Although exudate contains components that support healing, excessive exudate impairs healing and increases the risk of infection and periwound maceration (WUWHS, 2020). Optimal management of the challenges is therefore a priority to achieve faster healing times and limit patient morbidity.
