<p>Clinical manifestations of fungal infections are named according to the location of the site infected; for example, tinea barbae is a fungal infection of the beard, tinea cruris is a fungal infection of the groin (jock itch), and tinea favosa is a fungal infection of the scalp (crusty hair). Within the foot, we are faced with two common appearances: tinea pedis (athlete’s foot); and tinea unguium (infection of the nails). The more recognised term for a nail infection is onychomycosis.</p>
