Conference UPDATES
The 12th Annual Scottish Wound Care conference
Now in its 12th year, the Wounds UK Scottish Conference continues on 15 September 2011, at the Glasgow Marriot. This is an unrivalled opportunity for nurses in Scotland to attend a one-day event that discusses the many challenges for wound care practitioners across all health care settings — from primary to secondary services and care homes.
This conference offers an excellent opportunity for all nurses and podiatrists interested or involved in the management of wounds to come along and hear experts in their field present on a wide range of subjects relating to tissue viability.

Wounds International Book Review
Surgical Dressings and Wound Management by Dr Stephen Thomas
The initial chapters provide a clear explanation of the structure and function of the skin, wound classification and the mechanisms of healing. It is unusual to see costs included in a book as this is not often covered, although it has a very strong influence on treatment decisions.
The book provides a comprehensive examination of dressings from their development, testing and specific properties and uses. It is essential to choose a dressing that this is based on a clear understanding of how it meets the needs of an individual wound. The book also focuses on negative pressure therapy.
My overall impression is that this is an essential text for wound care clinicians as it is readable, well-illustrated and well-referenced with a depth of information, in particular, on wound treatments and wound products.
