Therapeutic insoles prevent diabetic foot ulceration
Diabetic foot ulcers, Skin integrity
A new therapeutic insole has been shown to reduce pressure on the forefront of the feet, helping to prevent diabetic foot ulceration.
A study in the British Journal of Diabetes and Vascular Disease shows that Liqua Care® (Pro Body Scandanavia) therapeutic insoles cushion the feet by preventing forefront pressure while also enhancing tissue oxygenation, which protects against tissue breakdown. The insoles are made of a non-toxic liquid which moves between several compartments, redistributing pressure based on foot movement.
In the study, 21 diabetic patients were fitted for and wore the insoles eight hours a day for two weeks. Pressure on the feet was reduced by 21.5% and tissue oxygenation was improved by 5% after just two weeks of use.
