Nurses train in lymphoedema management to improve servicesSeveral staff nurses working in the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland have undergone training in lymphoedema management, in order to expand the availability of treatment.

At the Dalziel Centre in Lanarkshire, Scotland, several staff nurses have undergone graduate training in lymphoedema management to boost the centre's services, allowing them to treat more patients, more effectively.

'The number of people with the condition has continued to increase,' said Heather Cooper, a lymphoedema nurse at the centre. 'We can now see more patients and expand the range of treatments available. For example, we can now provide manual lymphatic draining (MLD) which we've not offered before as it was too time consuming. It takes about an hour and drains the fluid. It forms part of the overall treatment and can help ease any pain.'
