New UK dressings code encourages ethical promotion

A new Surgical Dressing Manufacturer’s Association (SDMA) code of practice has been introduced as a guide for promoting wound care products to clinicians and medical bodies.
The code aims to encourage ethical and safe standards for companies to promote surgical products and technologies by, as well as to aid the healthcare community in making informed decisions about the products they choose to use.
According to the code, the SDMA is dedicated to:
- Encouraging and expanding the use of safe and effective wound care and associated products in health care markets
- Creating an agenda whereby the development of technically appropriate products and concepts can be encouraged
- Working in partnership with healthcare professionals
- Influencing in a responsible way the creation of a favourable regulatory environment
- Encouraging the adoption of highly ethical standards of practice in the advertising and promotion of products.
