New 3D wound measurement camera is introduced in the US
Complex wounds
A new cost-effective system of wound imaging, which generates a 3D colour model of wounds that can be measured and assessed for treatment, is being introduced in the US.
The University of Oxford, UK, has launched its wound assessment camera equipment called the Eykona Wound Measurement System in the US in the hopes of integrating it into routine clinical practice. Developers believe the technology will save significant amounts of money for the health sector.
The Ekoyna Wound Measurement System assesses wounds using a hand-held colour camera, advanced computer vision software and a disposable optical marker. It measures wound dimensions, surface area, colour of tissues and volume, and stores patient records in a database for easy access.
