London launches its first wound care CIC
Complex wounds, Lymphoedema
A former wound and lymphoedema service in London has recently been accepted as a community interest company (CIC), the first in this specialty.
CICs are companies that are designed to employ their services for the benefit of the community. The company, called Accelerate, will be helping communities in the Tower Hamlets area of London, UK to encourage wound and lymphoedema care.
'Nothing in the emerging reshape of the NHS can be taken for granted anymore,' said Chief Executive, Alison Hopkins. 'We as a team recognised that and realised that we had to be sure to keep quality wound and lymphoedema services in the frame. We know that proactive care and management can prevent and reduce hospital admissions; we've proved it.'
