Foam dressing prevents sacral pressure ulcer developmentA recent study has shown that using silicone border foam dressing can prevent sacral pressure ulcer cases in intensive care units.

Over 270 patients in critical or post-surgical care were examined over a six-month period for incidence of sacral pressure ulcers while using a silicone border foam dressing on the area. Patients' sacrums were checked twice daily and the study  found that during the six-month period in which the dressing was used the incidence of pressure ulcers dropped to 1.8%. The overall average of patients developing pressure ulcers without the application of foam dressings to their sacrums was 13.8% during the 35-month period prior to the study.
