Foam dressing prevents sacral pressure ulcer development
Pressure ulcers
A recent study has shown that using silicone border foam dressing can prevent sacral pressure ulcer cases in intensive care units.
Over 270 patients in critical or post-surgical care were examined over a six-month period for incidence of sacral pressure ulcers while using a silicone border foam dressing on the area. Patients' sacrums were checked twice daily and the study found that during the six-month period in which the dressing was used the incidence of pressure ulcers dropped to 1.8%. The overall average of patients developing pressure ulcers without the application of foam dressings to their sacrums was 13.8% during the 35-month period prior to the study.
