<p>Pressure ulcers are estimated to be present in more than one-third of patients with spinal cord injury (McKinley et al, 1999). Flap reconstruction of a pressure injury is aimed at improvement of patient hygiene and appearance, prevention or resolution of osteomyelitis and sepsis, reduction of fluid and protein loss through the wound, and prevention of future malignancy (Marjolin ulcer). </p>
