The International Interprofessional Wound Care Course (IIWCC)The Canadian Association of Wound Care (CAWC) offers a distance-learning course for wound care clinicians with two residential weekends. Sponsored by the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Canada and accredited through the Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.

An 8-month continuing education and graduate course consisting of two 4-day residential weekends, 9 of 12 self-study modules (5 required, 4 optional), and a selective related to each registrant's day-to-day activities.  This course is designed to provide key opinion leader/ champion training through a comprehensive educational experience for wound care clinicians and to translate new knowledge into practice.

Participants will:

  • Assess and critically appraise wound care literature in key subject areas
  • Integrate wound care principles by a self-directed learning program formulated with a learning contract
  • Demonstrate the application and evaluation of best practices by developing an selective related to the learner's everyday activities
  • Simulate clinical practice with small interprofessional groups and patient problem solving

 

Target Audience

The course is designed for wound care clinicians with some prior training and experience including the Canadian Association of Wound Care L series.  Physicians, nurses, and other health professionals working in the wound care field or in a related government or industry are the target audience.

 

Qualifications

Participants must have a health professional degree OR provide proof of a minimum of five years of relevant skin and wound care experience.

 

Certificate

Upon successful completion, IIWCC students receive a certificate of completion from CAWC and a credit certificate from the University of Toronto.

 

Residential Weekends

Attendance at both residential weekends is required for the certificate of completion in this course along with completion of the module and selective requirements.  The dates of the residential weekends for 2010/11 are:

  • Thursday October 14 -Sunday Oct 17, 2010
  • Friday April 29 - Monday May 2, 2011
